GOLFING AGAIN

GOLFING AGAIN

K19 Golf Group   Thursday 30th September 2021

On a fairly unsettled day, four intrepid golfers from the Golf group ventured out on to the fairly open golf course at Parley Golf Centre.

Despite the high, blustery wind and some intermittent drizzle, our golfers readied themselves to conquer the course, unlike our European friends recently!

Even though our balls sometimes did not reach the ‘highs’ of the aircraft taking off nearby, a good time was had by all and we look forward to teeing off again next month on October 20th at the Christchurch Golf Course.

Opening Morning 17th September 2021

Opening Morning 17th September 2021

Over 80 members attended the first FU3A Open Meeting at the Barrington Centre last Friday.  This was a Coffee Morning opportunity to meet up with old friends and new members, at the first face to face gathering we have been able to hold.

Chairman Bob Reeve welcomed everyone back and spoke about the FU3A plans for the coming year and the continuing refurbishment of the Barrington Centre.  Richard Tucker outlined the dates proposed by the Visits and Events sub-committee and Keith Banks gave an account of the monies raised for our Charity of the Year to date.

It was generally agreed how nice it was to be able to talk to people in person again!

SKITTLES

SKITTLES

Dear Members,

Many members have been asking about the skittles that we arrange at the Three Cross pub.

I have just spoken to the Pub and have been told they are very busy at the moment without the skittle alley being open. They advised me that the skittle alley required a lot of work before they could reopen it and I was advised to call back after September.

I will keep you updated and when the situation changes arrange a session.

PLANT SALE

PLANT SALE

Firstly a very big thank you to everyone who helped out with yesterday’s plant fayre, either donating plants or cakes, or helping out beforehand or on the day. I think – aided by some lovely weather – this was a very successful event, enjoyed by everyone who came.

We had 113 paying visitors (plus ourselves), and – with a few last minute sales to neighbours – we made a total of £571. As Margaret Ward did provide such a large number of plants for sale, we will be donating £100 to her charity, Going For Bust. So we will be donating £471, plus the £110 we made on hanging basket day, to the FU3A charity, the Fletcher Foundation, going to Poole Hospital Breast Cancer Screening.

GREENFINGERS VISIT KEYNESTON MILL

GREENFINGERS VISIT KEYNESTON MILL

Members of the FU3A Greenfingers group recently visited Keyneston Mill gardens. Keyneston Mill has featured in Gardeners World (both the TV programme and the magazine), and is famous for producing many dozens of plants used to make their own perfumerie.

An interesting, aromatic and very scenic visit (including riverside) – all socially distanced of course – was followed by an excellent lunch, with many items from their own gardens (the edible flowers were both delicious and visually attractive!).

The photographs show various members enjoying the damask and centifolia roses, calendula, foxgloves, nicotiana, hyssop, lavender etc.
